Upstart at the Ark: Carolina Beach 1st Baptist Church
409 N. Lake Park Blvd • Carolina Beach  Beach, NC 28428

Welcome to Upstart at the Ark, a Christian outreach after-school program that is tailored to the needs of children K-S. There is a one-time registration fee of twenty-five dollars, with the monthly charge of $225.00 regardless of Spring break or Christmas vacations. There is no extra charge when children are procured early for teacher work days, which end at 12:00 noon. The program is designed to fully engage each child with reading tutoring by the Island Women's literacy group, addressing any problem areas noted by teachers, a completion of daily homework in our Tutor/Computer area, coupled daily with leisurely activities. Upon arrival, each child will have a snack/drink and "downtime" whether by outside activity, a creative station venture or story/puppet time with "Miss Molly."
Next, the children will have the opportunity to experience "Music Mondays" by Day Carols which provides exposure to various genres of singing and music. As a bonus, "Miss Sherry" will prepare the children for an end of year concert which parents may attend. There will be 'Freebie Fridays" with a special snack (popcorn/drink) enjoyed as a movie is shown or activities through our in-house WE Resort (Table tennis, Bowling, Skiing, etc.), which will both be awarded through our weekly reward system. Finally, there will be an extra class available the second part of the year called "Manners Matter" equipping our children for a sound social upstart in life. School pick-up occurs promptly from Carolina Beach Elementary at 2:30 pm with our day ending promptly at 6 pm. There is a late fee that will be assessed for every ten minutes that there is a tardy pick-up unless prior arrangements are made with the Director.
Your child is the most important factor to the teachers at Upstart, with the latest technology in security. We strive to give each child the care and attention that they need to have a good "upstart" in life. Registration forms are below which can be completed and brought to our church office. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact meat (910) 458-5134. Leave your name and number and I will return your calls within a 24-hour timeframe.

Kure Beach Community Beach Worship Began May 30th

We invite you to come and join us for “Worship on the Beach” every Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the beach access at Avenue F in Kure Beach.  This summer Beach Worship will begin on Wednesday, May 30, and will continue through the end of September. For the last 6 years, Kure Memorial Lutheran Church has been offering a midweek worship service on the beach throughout the summer beginning the Wednesday after Memorial Day.  We gather for songs of praise, prayer, scripture reading, a short meditation or discussion about the reading, Holy Communion, and conversation.  The service itself only lasts 25-30 minutes.  We try to make it extra meaningful by using sand, water and seashells for images of forgiveness and God’s care, as well as illustrations of how God loves us and uses us even though we may not be perfect.
Bring your beach chair or blanket and join us for a brief, meaningful service in the most beautiful “sanctuary” around!  It’s a great place to bring your children and their beach toys.  If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Dan Keck, Pastor of Kure Memorial Lutheran Church at 910-458-5266.

Welcome to the River: New Church on Pleasure Island

A new church on Pleasure Island was started in January by two local natives- Rick and Lisa Courtney. They have called Carolina Beach home since the early 70's, graduated at Hoggard High School in 1985, and then married and left to serve the Navy for 16 years. Lisa and Rick returned home in 2006 with a calling to do ministry work and help others. The River Church is a non denominational body of believers who come together to Worship and refuel the spirit. Sunday you can expect to see people dressed casual and cultural to the beach lifestyle.
A full praise band that switches it up with traditional and contemporary music. Feel free to checkout more information at www.theriverofcb.org
