Aunt Annie’s Community Garden

When Kelly and Terry Wyckoff purchased the lot at 209 Peninsula Drive in Carolina Beach this past March Kelly knew she would start a community garden. Since then she has the not for profit, Aunt Annie’s Community Garden open to anyone in the neighborhood who is interested in spending some time getting their hands dirty. The garden was named after Kelly’s great Aunt installed and tended a garden that was several blocks in size in West Virginia. She was a Croatian immigrant that took care of family, all the while gardening, baking fresh bread and stoking a coal burning furnace. Her grape arbor yielded enough fruit for her to produce some of the most sought after wine in the neighborhood!

It is in her memory Kelly hopes to provide the same for her community. While you are there she encourages anyone to enjoy the tree swing that overlooks Otter Creek or grab a book from the newly installed “Little Free Library” that was dedicated in memory of the recent passing of her mother. The Wyckoff Family embodies the loving Pleasure Island Community by sharing their love of gardening and literature with their neighbors.
