Aquarium Celebrates Oceanfest June 8-10th

KURE BEACH, N.C. — Mountains, piedmont or coast–no matter where you live, the ocean impacts your life. The ocean is integral to the air we breathe, weather patterns, food, climate and much more. OceanFest, hosted by the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, celebrates the sea and its influence, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 8-10, 2018.
Guests will learn more about the ocean and how to protect it and its inhabitants. Throughout the day, visitors can interact with the aquarium team at education stations with hands-on games and activities, including an aquarium-wide scavenger hunt. The Aquarium’s new Nature Play area will also open the weekend of OceanFest.
In addition on Saturday and Sunday, M.C. Tillson, a children’s book author entertains all ages with Ocean Mysteries Bingo noon-1 p.m. and a book reading at 3:15 p.m. Chasing Coral, a feature film on coral reefs, will screen at 2 p.m., with participants offered a behind-the-scenes tour of the aquarium’s coral propagation. All the fun of OceanFest is free with Aquarium admission.
OceanFest is an extended celebration of World Oceans Day recognized annually on June 8. The Ocean Project and World Ocean Network began coordinating World Oceans Day in 2002. The United Nations officially began recognizing June 8 as World Oceans Day in 2008.

About the Aquarium
The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located south of Kure Beach, a short drive south from Wilmington, on U.S. 421. The site is less than a mile from the Fort Fisher ferry terminal. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Aquarium is one of three state aquariums in North Carolina administered by the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDNCR).
