WILMINGTON, NC – Voices, the Community Arts Center Choir, will ring in the holiday season with a caroling style concert outside the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center Sunday Dec. 5th. The choir will perform at 3:30 pm & 4:30 pm with free cookies and hot chocolate in the Historic USO Building lobby museum.

The concert will have something for everyone with Voices performing classic Christmas carols, 1940’s swing and ballads, and jazz standards. Voices was formed in February 2020 by Choir Director Silivea Johnson and has members of all ages and experience levels. During the pandemic all rehearsals and performances were virtual with public appearances beginning at the Historic USO Building’s July 4th Open House. Meet the Community Arts Center Choir Director

Silivea Johnson is an exceptionally talented vocalist who is also a multifaceted recording artist, musician, and syndicated radio show host. Although her primary artist genre is faith based music, she is an extraordinary jazz vocalist who was also classically trained throughout her childhood years. Silivea Johnson has opened for Patti LaBelle, and Dionne Warwick, and toured as lead vocalist with Billboard Award winning Jazz Trumpeter Tom Browne.

Ms. Johnson is a dedicated supporter of community arts and is currently a board member of Thalian Association Community Theatre. When she is not making music, Silivea manages and co-operates a small business with her husband.

The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is owned by the City of Wilmington and managed by Thalian Association Community Theatre. The building is a historic and cultural treasure that has been the center of recreation and art for generations of local children. Today the building continues to be the home for children, art and recreation while serving as a mini museum of the Wilmington and New Hanover County WWII home front. The World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) preservation organization, is the de-facto preservationist of the building's history and maintains the home front museum. Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the Main Stage at historic Thalian Hall and professionally manages the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center for the City of Wilmington. The youth theatre program offers training and performance opportunities for children ages seven through high school seniors. In 2007, Thalian Association Community Theatre was designated North Carolina’s Official Community Theater by the state legislature. For more information, go to www.thalian.org.
