Kenneth Paul Phillips, of Kure Beach NC, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Washington Illinois on October 16, 1946 to Robert Phillips and Lucille Phillips.
Ken was a devoted Caterpillar Tractor Company employee; he retired from Caterpillar with over 30 years of service and moved to the beach with his beloved wife, Judy. Ken loved jogging and chatting with people in the neighborhood as he made his daily run. He volunteered his time helping family and friends with car maintenance and home repairs. He was a Chief Election Judge with the state of North Carolina. Ken served in the Army Reserves. He liked brewing his own beer and enjoyed watching friends and family sample it. Those who know Ken well will not be surprised to learn that he kept a detailed spreadsheet with all of his beer recipes and experiments.
He is survived by his wife Judy Phillips, his children Renée Phillips (husband Tim Thomas) and grandchildren Lennon Thomas, Jude Thomas, and Max Thomas; Rodney Phillips (wife Michelle Phillips) and grandchildren Michael and Grace Phillips; and Ryan Phillips (wife Kim Phillips) and grandchildren Connor, Colin, and Cole Phillips.
A celebration of Ken’s life was held in the Kure Beach Village clubhouse on March 5, 2020 and will be followed by a service in Ken’s home state of Illinois at a later date. Donations to the Autism Society of Mclean County Adult Fund can be made in Ken’s honor at https://members.autismmclean.org/content/donate.
