Julie Cottrell (1961-2020) passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020, surrounded by family and friends along with her constant fur-baby companions, Jack, Joey, Brawley & Charlie.
Julie Patricia Banks was born on July 14, 1961 in London, England. After completing school in England and at the ripe old age of eighteen, she moved to Malibu, California, and began a career as a nanny. She transitioned into keeping books for a small business and became a self-taught bookkeeper and accountant. She worked in the aviation industry as an accountant for many years. She then transitioned into working in the non-profit industry spending eighteen years working at the YWCA in both Lafayette, Indiana and Wilmington, North Carolina.
In 2011, Julie and Ked, her husband of thirty years, worked together building Pleasure Island Animal Hospital in Carolina Beach, NC. She wore many hats in those days and up until a few years' ago she could be seen working at the front desk on a regular basis running the Hospital and the Lake Park Landing Shopping Center.
Julie was a spicy, no-nonsense lady. She was kind, generous and genuine. She worked hard managing the business along with raising Travis and keeping up with Ked. She enjoyed a good ball game, working crossword puzzles and sipping a glass of smooth whiskey along with a cigarette. She had a great British sense of humor as she loved to laugh and get together with her friends and family.
Julie is survived by her husband, Ked Cottrell, her son and daughter-in-law Travis and Samantha Cottrell, her mother Pam Banks, her father and step-mother Dennis and Lynn Banks, her sister Denise Banks and her brother ion Paul Banks of London, England, and many nieces and nephews. She also had a brother Mark Banks who is deceased.
Julie requested no service. She didn't want a fuss. She just wants everyone to remember her in their thoughts and prayers and knowing she will be missed.
