True, kids are back in school. Fewer people go on vacation this time of the year. However, there are a lot of events planned in the shoulder season that attract large crowds.
Autumn began September 22nd, but people will head our way to fish in the fall season because the weather is outstanding and hotel room rates are cheaper.
We've got some big ticket events coming up.
October 8th and 9th, it's the 23rd Annual Pleasure Island Seafood Blues & Jazz Festival at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area. (Visit www.pleasureislandnc.org  for tickets!)
Oct 21st - 23rd it's the 10th Annual Pleasure Island Surf Fishing Challenge. (http://fishermanspost.com)
October 15 - 8th Annual Salty Paws Festival takes place at the Carolina Beach Lake to promote animal adoption, education and other related local charities.
There are more events scheduled throughout the off season including a holiday parade, a flotilla, and many other fine events that weather permitting will continue to help promote a year round economy.
Not to mention that most of the businesses on Pleasure Island remain open year round offering entertainment, great food and wonderful shopping destinations.
Last year the Boardwalk area was a bit hard to navigate due to construction in the area, but this year it's wide open with new sidewalks, buried power lines, a new Hampton Inn & Suites, and more!
The old Boardwalk Arcade that was destroyed by fire has been rebuilt with games and many new shops.
Kure Beach is popping with events in the shoulder season. Despite the name, the  Farewell Summer Jazz Funeral on October 7th will surely be an entertaining event in downtown Kure Beach near the pier.
You can find out more information on these events and many others by checking our B-Section each week.
