North Carolina is working hard to revitalize the local film industry after a number of years of issues regarding film incentives that negatively impact the business. Particularly in the Wilmington area and Screen Gems Studios.
With movies in the 1980's like Fire Starter and others, as well as the most recent major Marvel Iron Man movie, in addition to other television series such as One Tree Hill and other popular titles, New Hanover County and surrounding areas have proven to be attractive areas for the entertainment industry. With the recent news of Warner Bro's planning to film a new series called "The Lost Boys" in Carolina Beach, it's a move that should reinforce the movement to increase support for the local film industry including state incentives. While some local residents will love seeing film crews working the set on the Boardwalk next month for "The Lost Boys", still others will complain about various issues they find unsatisfactory including traffic, pedestrian access and other issues. Remember this, movies and TV series can attract increased tourism, especially if those works or art become extremely popular with the masses. Let's welcome the film industry to our Town.
