Thanks To The Weather Gods And Our Community

The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce hosted the 34th Annual Carolina Beach Music Festival this past Saturday at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.  After the violent storms of late Friday night, we awoke to a ‘glorious’ cool morning that offered the perfect day for the Festival.  At a little under 3,000 participants, everyone had a wonderful day of shaggin’ and groovin’ to the three best Beach Bands around…
Everyone’s perennial favorite – BAND OF OZ at 11 am
The new kids BLACKWATER RHYTHM & BLUES BAND at 1:00 pm
And the increasingly dynamic JIM QUICK & COASTLINE finished us up at 3:00 pm
There was a well-behaved crowd of concert-goers that braved the early morning cold to get in line first.  Prior to the gates opening, the line entered the north end of the Boardwalk and que’ed at the center and at one time went down Canal almost to Britt’s.  The masses were very patient and the line cleared in less than an hour to get the people on the beach in time for Band of Oz.
This Festival is unique in that we start the day with a beach, transform it into a Festival venue and then take it down again before we go home.  To say a few folks were worn out is an understatement.  We would like to recognize a few outstanding folks that made this possible. Foremost is the Town of Carolina Beach who provide massive amounts of support (financially and materially) especially through their Operations Department (Thank you Tim and Tony), CBFD for operating our First Aid Tent and the CBPD for keeping the peace.  Throughout the day, our very own ‘Trashy People’ kept everything clean and moved huge amounts of sound equipment, beverages and anything else needed – Thanks to Tony, Mike, Stewart and Speedo.
We had in excess of 60 - three hour Volunteer shifts and many dedicated folks who spent the entire day with us including Rachael Shelton, Sue & George Winchell, Denise & Jim McNeil, Anne Brodsky, Sheila Nicolson, Lindsay Paulinski and Peter Marotta.  A special shout-out to Step=Up For Soldiers and the Pleasure Island Parrotheads for providing volunteers as needed.  And finally, to my behind-the-scenes volunteers I could not do this without, including Janis Boroznoff running the Front Gate, Linsay Manning & Dex Shorter providing Banking Services, Deb LeCompte and Mike Worley dealing with the Bands and whatever they might need and always present Paul Boroznoff of Southern Digital in documenting everything for our future memories.
Of course, I need to mention our main sponsors, again the Town of Carolina Beach, The Cape Fear Shag Club, Budweiser, Golden Sands Hotel, Matthews Motors, Rex & Sons RV’s and the Courtyard-Marriott-Carolina many more.
I wanted to take this opportunity to say Thank you to all of the volunteers and  sponsors that make these Festivals as professional as possible. Finally, thank you to the music lovers that attend our events – we appreciate you and want more of you – tell your friends to visit, enjoy and do business with Chamber Members.  And now on to the Summer Fireworks, Movies and Free Summer Concerts…. See you down front.  Mark your calendars for August 24th for Rock the Beach coming to a Beach near you.
Thank You
Greg Reynolds, President
Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce
