Another winter week has come ad gone. No one would have known it at the boat ramp this past week though because it felt like a late summer day. I happened to be at the boat ramp several time’s this week and had to drive through the parking lot looking for a spot to park after splashing the boat into the water. One thing for sure is that there are plenty of anglers around here taking full advantage of the unusually warm weather that we are having. As for the fishing, everything that should be happening is happening. There are a good number of trout around and with the warm mid day temperatures they are being fooled by many tactics. From top water plugs all the way through the water column to slower approaches. While chasing the trout be prepared for a little excitement
when a slot redfish or striper jumps all over your lure or live bait. The offshore guys are finding plenty of excitement offshore whether they are trolling for wahoo, bluefin tuna, king mackerel, or dropping to the bottom in search of spawning grouper. The grouper can be found closer inshore this time of year in the 55-75 depth range. There were a handful more bluefin tuna brought to the dock to be sold again this week.
They are on the move down the coast and have been seen right off our beach just this week. Just because it’s winter time don’t let that stop you from getting on the water and filling a cooler. Good luck to you and remember to be safe!!
