This past week was a very pleasant week on the water. There were plenty of fish biting and enough descent weather around to provide opportunities to chase them. The inshore bite was stronger than it has been the last few weeks. Most anglers are thinking it is the recent flood of mullet minnows that have entered our local waters. I would have to agree since the last few trips the fishing chose to eat live mullet over all other baits. The flounder, trout, and redfish are all chasing these mullet. Most of the time you will find these baits running down any grass bank you run across. When you find the mullet don’t catch them and run somewhere else to fish as the fish will be close by looking for them too. The nearshore wrecks have been producing good numbers of flounder and redfish as well. While your out there don’t forget to out a live bait out the back of the boat on top. There has been some nice spanish mackerel lurking around these nearshore reefs. Offshore the king mackerel bite is starting to get a little better. Most of the fish are a good way offshore but with all the warm water around you never know when you might run across one. Again find the bait and there will be fish close by.
The latest craze going around is running extremely far offshore to try out you luck with a swordfish. There has only been a few boats to take on the challenge, but with a lot of success when they do. The more the new’s travels about these big fish being caught the more anglers you will see bringing them to the dock. Get out there and fish. It should stay hot for a little longer but as we transition into the fall the fishing will only get better.
