WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW head softball coach Kristy Norton has announced the addition of former SUNY New Paltz head coach Brittany Robinson to the Seahawks’ staff for the 2017 season.
“We are excited about Brittany joining our staff,” Norton said. “She has an incredible passion for the game and really cares about the maturation of student-athletes. Brittany has excelled as a head coach at SUNY New Paltz and we are thankful that she has taken the leap into the Division I level.
“I really wanted someone who was an effective teacher, had a proven track record of being a successful hitter at the college level as well as developing successful hitters,” Norton continued. “Brittany’s work ethic, teaching ability and positive energy will add depth to our staff and really benefit our players. I look forward to her helping our hitters and catchers improve in many ways.”
Robinson posted a 47-59 record in three seasons as the Hawks’ coach, including an 18-19 record last year and a berth in the SUNYAC Tournament. She also had four student-athletes earn all-conference honors during her tenure.
Prior to being at SUNY New Paltz, Robinson served as an assistant coach with the Wil Devils Softball Club, a member of the Semi-Pro National Softball League in Switzerland. She also served as the head softball coach at Northern Vance High School in Henderson, N.C., from 2011-13. A 2011 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Robinson was a four-year letter winner for the Tar Heels who played in 179 career games. She tallied 19 doubles with 14 home runs in her career while guiding UNC to a 173-66-1 record with three NCAA Tournament appearances.
“I am thrilled to be given this opportunity to help the program at UNCW reach new heights,” Robinson said. “It is clear this program is surrounded by a lot of passionate people and I hope to continue that passion in the pursuit of excellence.”
