PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Junior forward Meg Salvadore scored the game-tying goal with just two seconds left in regulation as UNCW rallied to earn a 1-1 draw against Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Vidas Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who improved to 8-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the CAA, extended their unbeaten streak to three straight games. Meanwhile, Drexel saw its record move to 8-5-2 overall and 4-1-1 in league play.
"This was another classic CAA battle," Coach Paul Cairney said. "We played very well for long spells, but could not get the final pass or final touch. Drexel is a disciplined group that is playing very well. They don't give up many points at home and they have two excellent forwards.
"I must commend our team for their gutsy and 'never over until it's over' attitude," Cairney continued. "We showed great spirit. This is a crucial point on the road and we will bounce forward from this and prepare for Towson." Salvadore netted her third goal of the season in the 90th minute after heading in a loose ball in the penalty area following a corner kick by junior defender Savannah Andrews.
Sophomore forward Shaelyn McCarty gave Drexel a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute when she tallied her sixth goal of the season on a 10-yard shot past senior goalkeeper Liisa Rahkola.
Rahkola made three saves for the Seahawks while junior goalkeeper Christiana Ogunsami, the reigning CAA Co-Player-of-the-Week, tallied six saves for Drexel.
