The Cape Fear Flyers Youth Running Club has an amazing finish to a very successful track and field season.  Last week 4 Cape Fear Flyers competed at the National Junior Olympic Track and Field competition in Jacksonville, Florida.  Russell Corbit qualified in the men’s hammer throw and shot put but was unable to attend.  Those athletes that did attend made their Cape Fear Flyer coaches proud by ranking high in the country and setting new personal bests!
Carter Grace competed in the boy’s 9-10 age division shot put.  He threw a new personal best 7.3 meters and is ranked 28th in the country.  Nash Best competed in the 17-18 men’s javelin throw and also threw a personal best 32.7 meters to rank him 43rd in the country.  Ava Toppin threw her personal best when competing in the 11-12 year old girls discuss throw.  She threw 22.01 meters and is ranked 16th in the country.  Finally Hunter Browe competed in the 15-16 age boys 2000 meter Steeplechase run ranking him 25th in the country with a time of 8.07:67 minutes.  What is significant about all these competitors is that these events are new to all of them!  They had only practiced this season with Cape Fear Flyers and held their own against athletes from all over the country.
Cape Fear Flyers has more to offer local athletes this fall!  In September, the Junior Olympic Cross Country Season will begin.  Athletes will train to run distances ranging from 2k-5k based on their age.  Continue to check our website  for information regarding a parent meeting and start to the season in early September.  Also coming soon the Cape Fear Flyers will be hosting a Monster Dash Trail Run 2k and 6k at Carolina Beach State Park on October 24th!  Check our website for details coming soon.

Carter Grace also got a perssonal best throw at the USATF National Outdoor Meet at 23’11”.
