Cape Fear Flyers Cross country returns for season 2!  After a very successful season in 2014, the Cape Fear Flyers Cross Country Program is scheduled to begin again this September.  A parent meeting will take place Wednesday September 2 at 6pm in the Murray Middle School cafeteria.  During this meeting you can meet coaches, get practice and race dates, hear about what this program has to offer and even register your child.  Runners ages 6 and up of all abilities and experience are welcome to join.  Practices are tailored to your child's age and ability level.  Cape Fear Flyers prides itself in providing runners with proper form training while pushing runners to do their best.  A family atmosphere is created where athletes are able to thrive.
Cape Fear Flyers is a USATF (USA Track and Field) Qualified Cross Country Running program.  Runners compete in local and regional meets of varying distances depending on age.  Ages 8 and under run a ........ (I don't remember the ages and distances )......
The 2014 cross country season was Cape Fear Flyers first since its reinstatement as a local running club.  It's founder and CEO Shawn McKee was once a Cape Fear Flyer himself and wanted to provide this athletic opportunity again to the youth of Wilmington.  Shawn is currently the head Cross Country coach at Ashley High School as well as the distance coach for Ashley's Track and Field team.  His experience and enthusiasm brings a lot to the club.  Several beginner runners were able to do well enough at the state level meet to qualify for the USATF National Cross Country meet in Myrtle Beach last December.  Cape Fear Flyers had 3 teams (6 or more runners from the same age group) qualify at the state meet for nationals.
They were 8 and under girls, 15-16 year old girls and 15-16 year old boys.  Several other runners also qualified for the national meet by finishing in the top 15 of their age group.
As a first season for a running club this is a huge success!
