Wilmington, NC— Cameron Art Museum’s 1st annual Art Moves Midtown 5K & Minnie’s Mile Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 7:30 a.m. The race kick’s off awareness and family fun in the growing Midtown District.
5 Star Race Productions is partnering with the CAM to produce this event to raise funds for Artreach and other inclusive programs of the museum. 5 Star Race Productions and timed with Champion Chip Timing, which is the same system used by the New York Marathon. This event is presented by Live Oak Bank. THE COURSE, SIGN-UP & POST RACE CEREMONY. The 5K course & Minnie’s Mile Fun Run begins at CAM’s Pyramid Park at 7:30 a.m. on Sat. June 11, with runners moving through Forks Historical Site, Halyburton Park and Gary Schell Cross-City Trail then finishing the race under the Sculpture “The Structure of Things Given and Held” by Mel Chin adjacent to the parking lot at CAM. The museum is located on the corner of 17th Street and Independence Drive This is a partially shaded course that if flat and fast for serious competitors and accessible for all abilities to run, walk, roll or stroll. Artistic costumes are invited and will be awarded. Music by Mr. Mark of the Broccoli Brothers along with fun activities for the children. What could be better than running from Cameron Art Museum and connecting with the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail and into the cool solitude of Wilmington’s Halyburton Park! Spectators are invited to join in the fun cheering racers to the finish line at CAM’s Pyramid Park as finishers run under a gorgeous work of art by renowned artist Mel Chin. We are also inviting participants and spectators for the post-race Awards Ceremony and after party. CAM is thrilled to host Art Moves Midtown 5K and Minnie’s Mile Fun Run this year and plan to be back next year too. AWARDS All finishers receive a handmade ceramic medal. For 5K 1st, 2nd & 3rd Male/Female overall each receive handmade ceramic vessels by local artist Renato Abbate. Awards go 3-deep in 5-year age groups through 65+ in 5K. Minnie’s Fun Run will have awards for 1st, 2nd & 3rd overall finishers. The Minnie Mile Fun Run honors Minnie Evans, one of the most famous artists in the history of Wilmington. Fun for the whole family awaits just outside the reproduction of Minnie Evan’s ticket booth and art studio at CAM’s Pyramid Park, as well as a festive awards ceremony.
