NEW HANOVER CTY - Free Christmas tree recycling began the day after the Christmas holiday for New Hanover County residents. The New Hanover County Environmental Management department asks residents living in the unincorporated areas to take their trees to one of three locations this year.
Residents began dropping off their used Christmas trees, during daylight hours, starting Dec. 26 at:
• Home Depot, 5511 Carolina Beach Road (Monkey Junction)
• Ogden Park (near the baseball fields), 225 Ogden Park Drive
• New Hanover County Landfill, 5210 US Highway 421 North
Recycling of Christmas trees will continue through the month of January with the last pickup being Tuesday, Feb. 3. Please remove all decorations and lights prior to drop off.
This program is funded and coordinated by the New Hanover County Environmental Management department with support from the City of Wilmington Sanitation department, New Hanover County Parks department and Home Depot.
For Carolina Beach:
The Town of Carolina Beach is offering Christmas Tree disposal services during the month of January.
Town employees began collecting real Christmas trees on Monday, January 5th.  There is no need to call in or request a pickup; town employees will be performing collections several times each week during the month of January.
To dispose of your real Christmas tree, please remove all decorations and place the tree at the edge of your property near the road.
This service is being provided by the Town at no charge.
If you have any questions, please contact Town Hall at 458-2999.
For Kure Beach:
Kure Beach Public Works is offering free curbside pickup of Christmas trees. Pickup dates are on Thursday, January 8th and 15th, only.
If you have a tree that needs to be picked up, please remove all ornaments/tinsel before placing it on your property line by 7:00 am on those dates.
For the City of Wilmington:
If you are a city trash customer, the city will recycle your Christmas tree. Simply remove all decorations and lights from the tree
and put it curbside with any other vegetative debris on your normal service day.
Please be sure not to place the tree near any storm drains and be sure it does
not block access to any mailboxes or sidewalks.
For the Town of Wrightsville Beach:
The town employees will pick up Christmas trees until Thursday, January 29th.
Collection days will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
