CAROLINA BEACH - Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue Tryouts will take place March 21st and April 11th in order to staff their 2015 lifeguard program. The tryouts will begin each day at 10am at the UNCW Natatorium on the Campus of UNCW and involve a 500 meter swim in under ten minutes and 1 mile run, also under ten minutes. According to Simon Sanders, head of Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue, "Very few jobs are as rewarding and fulfilling as becoming an Ocean Lifeguard. As a lifeguard you will be trained in rescue techniques, rescue equipment, medical response, CPR, AED, ocean awareness, marine wildlife, weather conditions and much more."
Sanders explained lifeguards will be working for one of the largest ocean lifeguard organizations in North Carolina with 42 lifeguard positions, 22 lifeguard stands and 12 rescue vehicles.
He explained, "Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue is proud to be an Advance Certified Beach with the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) and plans to send a competition team to National Competitions again this year."
Carolina Beach will also be hosting the South Atlantic Lifesaving Association (SALA) Regional Competition for 2015.
Applicants must be 16 years of age to tryout. No certifications are required and there will be paid training for qualifying applicants.
The Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue is located at the Fire Department, 9 South Dow Road, in Carolina Beach. You can call 910-458-2985 for more info or visit
