CAROLINA BEACH - Carolina Beach Town Manager Michael Cramer updated the Town Council on when a long-awaited Harris Teeter store may begin taking shape at 1000 North Lake Park Blvd on the former site of Jubilee Amusement Park. The park was removed some years ago to make way for a mixed-use commercial and residential development that was never built. Cramer explained, "Everybody has been asking me now that we have the Hampton Inn coming, when is Harris Teeter coming. We've had a lot of conversations with Harris Teeter. Some of them revolving around their partnership with the next door neighbors and the Federal Point Shopping Center and what their entry to that property is going to look like. From my understanding all of that has been resolved. Harris Teeter and Kroger have signed off on the plans and they anticipate to bring" plans to the Town Planning Department in May with review by the Planning and Zoning Commission in June and Council consideration in July of this year. The project will require a Conditional Use Permit granted by the Council following a public hearing as well as a hearing before the Planning Commission. Cramer said it would likely take 18 months to complete the project. A previous plan was delivered to the Planning Department in February 2014 showing a freestanding store  listed as 53,288 square feet with potential expansion to 60,576 square feet.
