11th Annual Steve Haydu St. Patrick’s Lo-Tide Run A Success

This past Saturday the streets of Carolina Beach ran green for the 11th Annual Steve Haydu St. Patrick’s Lo Tide Run! Despite undesirable weather, a course change and ongoing constructions almost 2000 participants joined in on the 5k/10k benefit.
This year in the male 5K division, Pleasure Island had a huge showing taking 1,2,3. First place overall male from Kure Beach, with a time of 17:08 was Xaview McKinley, in second Greg Zinner of Carolina Beach ran a time of 18:52 and in third place also from Carolina Beach, Stephen Dees ran a 19:04.
For the females all the way from Daytona Beach Florida Kayla Darden took first place with a time of 21:26, Susan Varga took second with a time of 22:02 and just 8 seconds behind, 11 year-old Paton Chitty of Wilmington took third place for the females running a time of 22:10. In the Masters division Mark Basquill of Wilmington won the male division with a time of 20:51 and for the females, Barbara Bass of Kure Beach won with a time of 23:05.
In the 10K all the from Avon Lake Ohio, Mike Parsons took first place with a time of 35:15, Wilmington’s Phillip McLaurin took second with a time of 39:00 and in third Carolina Beach’s Andrew Prill ran a 40:01. For the females Kim Mueller of Castle Hayne took firs with a time of 37:20, Jenifer Meyer of Wilmington took second with a time of 42:11 and Maychee Zah of Fayetteville took third with a time of 43:36.
For the Masters male division from Cary, Scott Pate won with a time of 42:25 and for the females, Mary Margaret McEachern of Wilmington won with a time of 56:23.
Another huge part of the Lo Tide Run is team participation. This year’s “Fastest Team” was the Island Gazette’s “Cape Fear Flyers”, Biggest Team went to “Emily’s Lucky Charms” with a record breaking 105 members, Hopeful Hippos won the Biggest Crowdriser raising $1,222 crowdrise.com/Hopeful Hippos exceeding their goal! Most Spirited Team went to “The Cape Fear Shag Club and Friends” who also took the title of the “Timbo” Reilly Most Spirited Individual Award Ms Lynne Willis of Carolina Beach. Following the awards ceremony everyone was asked to meet at the Lazy Pirate for the Lo Tide Run’s Official After-Party where guests enjoyed St. Patty’s Day themes drinks, live music from the Casserole and raffles. This year’s President Cori McQueen had this to say, “Wow! I am so excited to announce that we had 1972 participants yesterday at the 11th Annual Lo Tide Run. You all are amazing and should be so proud of the impact you are making in the lives of our local recipients! As soon as we have the final numbers in we will update you on how much money we raised. The Steve Haydu St. Patrick's Lo Tide Run is an annual 5K/10K race on a flat and fast track through residential neighborhoods. A beautiful venue on Pleasure Island held every March.  The Steve Haydu St. Patrick's Lo Tide Fund, Inc is a non-profit entity [501(c)3] founded with the sole purpose of assisting local friends, families and neighbors fighting cancer in financial need. The annual Lo Tide Run is the only event held by the Fund to raise money for this purpose www.lotiderun.org.
