Sheriff's Department Makes 12-Pound Cocaine Bust Featured

NEW HANOVER CTY  - The New Hanover County Sheriff's Department announced March 31st, they caught a man carrying 6 kilos of cocaine. According to Lt. J.J. Brewer, on March 27th the Sheriff's Department's Vice and Narcotics Division arrested 34-year-old Christopher Eugene Newton for three felony counts of trafficking cocaine, one felony count of Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sale and Distribute cocaine, one felony count for maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for drugs, two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Brewer explained, "The arrest came after a joint narcotics investigation involving the Wilmington Police Department, Wilmington DEA Office, and task force officers assigned to DEA. Detectives seized 6 kilos or over 12 pounds of cocaine concealed inside Newton's vehicle. The cocaine has a street value of $600,000." Newton was taken to jail and placed under a $750,000 secure bond.
