Man Pleads Guilty in Market Street Destruction Featured

Anthony Jerard Joye, age 32, pled guilty to Aggravated Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle and Possession of Heroin on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in New Hanover County Superior Court. The defendant received an active sentence of 34-48 months followed by 36 months supervised probation
upon release by the Honorable Judge Phyllis Gorham.
On February 15 2015, Anthony Joye was traveling West on Market Street at speeds estimated at 80 mph or more while impaired on narcotics. At the intersection of 2nd and Market Street, Joye lost control of his vehicle causing extensive damage to three vehicles, a parking meter, and the Shuckin
Shack. The vehicle driven by Joye was occupied by 3 passengers, one of which, Juan Robinson, sustained serious injuries requiring surgery. During the investigation, law enforcement officers came across seven bindles of Heroin. Joye has been in custody since the incident.
