CAROLINA BEACH - Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue is holding a five-day Junior Lifeguard Camp June 15th to the 19th and July 20th to the 24th.
The purpose of the camps is to familiarize participants with ocean and beach safety skills. This is not a "learn to swim" program. Swimming skills are required.
Course instruction includes an introduction to ocean safety with instruction on how to identify hazards at the beach and in the ocean as well as how to minimize the risk of injury.
The junior lifeguards will get plenty of fresh air and sunshine along with exercise while participating daily team relays involving swimming, running and paddling.
Daily Activities: Learn about ocean hazards and safety education and essential lifeguarding skills. Opportunity to meet and sit with the career lifeguards for a day.
Students gain a wide variety of skills and knowledge including ocean/beach activities, first aid, ocean familiarity, CPR, rescue techniques, physical fitness and water safety education and respect for the ocean.
Ocean Activities:
• Swim Relay;
• Rescue Relay;
• Paddle board Relay;
• Land Line pull;
• Beach Flags.
Times for the camps are 9AM to 3PM each day. The cost is $120. You could be a part of the United State Lifesaving Association, which is the only Professional organization of open water lifeguards and open water rescue personnel in the United States.
All proceeds go to Carolina Beach Ocean Association for new equipment and helps fundraise for the CBOR U.S.L.A competition team.
