CAROLINA BEACH - The 2015-2016 budget for New Hanover County included a plan to relocate the Carolina Beach Library from its current location on Cape Fear Blvd to a recently renovated commercial space at Snow's Cut Crossing Shopping Center on North Lake Park Blvd.
The relocation accomplishes a number of benefits to the residents of Pleasure Island and southern New Hanover County. Most prevalent are preservation of the branch on the island, a near doubling of the capacity to 4,000  square feet, and the ability to provide regular early childhood reading programs at the Carolina Beach branch. Island adults benefit from relocation through an expanded print collection and more access to technology resources for career development, business planning, and the like."
Harry Tuchmayer, Library Director, explained earlier this year it is an, "opportunity to significantly improve library services to the residents of Pleasure Island. In the budget will be the funds needed to rent a new 4,000 sq. ft. facility in the Snow’s Cut Shopping Center. This move will give us space to provide all the services needed to provide exceptional library service, including a clearly defined children’s section with space for regular children’s programming, adequate space for materials and space for future expansions of internet services. We will need some time to renovate the space and order the furniture and hope to open sometime this fall."
The Pleasure Island Branch will hold an open house on November 21st with a ceremony at 10AM followed by Storytimes during the day by Miss Mary, Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library, Tours by volunteers from Island Women and Board games with International Games Day.
The existing Carolina Beach Library's last day of operation will be Saturday November 14th.
The new location was formerly a movie rental business.
