KURE BEACH - Two homes in Kure Beach  were destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning, July 31st. At 1:36am, the Kure Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 302 S. Sixth Avenue after a neighbor called 911.

According to Fire Chief Edmund Kennedy, "Kure Beach Firefighters arrived on scene and observed flames and heavy smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire as the fire was spreading to 605 I. Avenue."

Chief Kennedy explained, "The homes were occupied and all residents made it out of the structures safely." No injuries were reported.

Kennedy said the financial damages to the structures were being assessed and a Fire Investigator and the Kure Beach Police Department are investigating to determine the cause of the fire. It's believed a flood light located on a garage was the source of the fire.

Both roofs collapsed during the fire.

Kennedy explained, "The call to the 911 center from a neighbor in the area and the quick response from emergency personnel significantly helped to minimize the damage to the residences, surrounding properties and preventing injury to the occupants. Additionally, the Carolina Beach Fire Department, New Hanover County Fire Department, New Hanover Regional EMS, Kure Beach Police Department, Carolina Beach Police Department and Wilmington Fire Department responded to assist."
