CAROLINA BEACH - An application was recently submitted to the Town of Carolina Beach to obtain a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to build a SpringHill Suites, by Marriott, at 1341 N. Lake Park Blvd adjacent to Walgreens.

The application was submitted by Avon Park Holdings, LLC of Greenville SC.  The project will occupy 1.95 acres on two vacant properties.

A SpringHill Suites currently operates at Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington, NC.

According to Marriott International, the SpringHill brand has 433 open properties and 183 projects in their development pipeline and, "SpringHill Suites by Marriott®, the largest all-suites brand in the upscale tier, delivers a refreshing and stylish take on the travel experience. Fusing form and function and wrapping it all in attractive, modern décor, SpringHill Suites offers little extras such as premium beer and wines in the Market, elevated snacks and fitness options attuned to evolving guest needs. The guest suites feature proprietary west elm® furniture in an industry-leading partnership and deliver a highly differentiated experience that solidifies the brand’s leadership in the upper-moderate tier. The brand consistently ranks among the top Marriott brands in guest satisfaction and has won numerous J.D. Power awards for service."

The Town's Technical Review Committee considered the CUP application during their August 19th, meeting. That committee is made up of Town Department heads including Police, Fire, Public Works, Planning Department and other Town staff. They review the application and discuss plans for a new development.

After TRC reviews the application, the next step will be review by the Planning and Zoning Commission who will consider the application and recommend Town Council approve or deny a permit.

Another development group submitted preliminary plans to build a Wendy's restaurant on the same property in September of 2018 but that project never materialized.
