CAROLINA BEACH - Candidates that won on the ballot for Municipal Elections in New Hanover County will take the oath of office in December.

Carolina Beach Council member LeAnn Pierce will be sworn in as Mayor for a two year term during the Council's December 10th, meeting at 6:30pm. Newly elected Council members Lynn Barbee and Jay Healy will also take the oath of office for a four year term.

In Kure Beach, incumbent Mayor, Craig Bloszinsky and incumbent Council members Joseph Whitley and David W. Heglar will take the oath of office during the Council's December 9th, meeting.

For the City of Wilmington, incumbent Mayor Bill Saffo along with incumbent Council members Margaret Haynes, Neil Anderson, and newly elected member Kevin Spears will take the oath of office during the Council's December 3rd, meeting.

In the Town of Wrightsville Beach, Darryl Mills will take the oath office for Mayor. Jeff DeGroote and  Zeke Partin will take the oath of office as Council members.

In all races, the Mayor's seat is a two year term. Council members serve a four year term.

In Carolina Beach, Mayor-elect Leann Pierce won election while still serving a four year term on Council.  When she takes the oath of office her Council seat will be vacant.

At the Council's January, 2020 regular meeting, the new Council will have to vote to fill that vacant seat for the remaining two years of the four year term.

The Council will have to make a good faith effort at every regular monthly meeting and vote on appointing someone to fill the vacant seat until an appointment is agreed upon by a majority vote.
