CAROLINA BEACH -  A man barricaded himself in his apartment on Glenn Avenue late Sunday night, August 23rd after Carolina Beach Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute.

On August 26th, Holman Clyde Bass Jr., a 35-year-old male, of 717 Glenn Ave., Apt.#2, Carolina Beach, N.C. surrendered to law enforcement officers on scene.

According to Det.Sgt. Scott Hettinger, on "August 23rd, 2020 at 11:21 p.m.: the Carolina Beach Police Department was dispatched to 717 Glenn Ave. Apt.#2, Carolina Beach, N.C., in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed a male party with a firearm retreat out of view inside the residence. At that point the male subject refused to come out and to submit to law enforcement commands."

Glenn Ave. was closed for vehicular traffic. Additionally, portions of Blanche Ave. and Kenneth Ave. were closed to vehicular traffic. Residents and visitors were urged to stay away from the area until the incident was resolved.

On August 25th, the Wilmington Police Department bomb squad and Swat team were called in to support the Carolina Beach Police Department.

Several people at the scene indicated that police told the individual he had committed no crime, and law enforcement seemed to be holding back and working towards having a conversation with him rather than using force.

On August 27th, Hettinger explained, "The Carolina Beach Police Department took a barricaded subject into custody at 10:02. pm. With the support of the New Hanover Country Sherriff’s Office, the subject identified as Mr. Holman Clyde Bass Jr., a 35-year-old male, of 717 Glenn Ave., Apt.#2, Carolina Beach, N.C. surrendered to law enforcement officers on scene. Mr. Bass is charged with two felony counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with Firearm. No injuries were reported during the incident. A search warrant was executed on the residence and officers seized a firearm and ammunition. Residents may return to the area and the streets are open to normal vehicular traffic. The case is still under investigation."
