Carolina Beach Police Track Down First Citizens Bank Robber Featured

CAROLINA BEACH -  The First Citizens Bank on North Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach was robbed on Monday October 6th.
The Carolina Beach Police Department completed an investigation into the robbery. According to Det.Sgt. Scott Hettinger, "Investigators identified Charles Lee Pingley, a 52-year-old male from 210 Prince St., Dunn, N.C. as the suspect in the case. Carolina Beach Police Department along with the Erwin Police Department executed a search warrant at 210 Prince St., Dunn, N.C."
Hettinger explained, "After completion of the search warrant, a warrant for arrest was issued by the New Hanover County Magistrates Office for the charge of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Charles Pingley was incarcerated in the Harnett County Jail on unrelated charges. Pingley was served the warrant for arrest at the Harnett County Jail and placed on a $150,000 secured bond and subsequently transported to the New Hanover County Jail."
Police were investigating the case but in the time of COVID-19, wearing a face mask is not an uncommon sight. In fact, it's required at most establishments.
First Citizens in Carolina Beach has been robbed before. The last time was August 10th, 2018. No arrests were made in that investigation.
In 2020, following the robbery, the bank was closed with notice to account holders and the property is now up for sale on the real estate market. In October of 2020,  Det. Sgt. Scott Hettinger explained, "The Carolina Beach Police and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of robbery at First Citizen’s Bank, 612 N. Lake Park Blvd." Hettinger explained the  initial report said a subject entered the bank, demanded money and committed a robbery. The suspect, who fled the area on foot, was aided by an accomplice described as the “getaway driver". He explained the subject was described as a middle-aged white male, wearing a dark ball cap with the logo "CAT" on the front. The suspect concealed his face with a face covering and glasses. He was wearing a dark in color long sleeve shirt with orange in color letters on the front. He was also wearing light faded blue jeans and gray athletic shoes. The investigation confirmed the suspect was caring a green in color bag. Upon leaving, the male suspect entered the passenger side of a four door, dark in color compact SUV. The vehicle fled the area in a north bound direction toward Snow’s Cut Bridge."
