As we all know, the Carolina Beach Inlet has all but filled in with sand and silt as a result of a lack of Federal funding for dredging. This has made it virtually impossible for our Charter fleet and many recreational boaters to access the ocean in a safe and easy way. The State of North Carolina has found a critical funding source to replace the lost federal funding that could help southeast North Carolina beach communities, including Topsail Island, Holden Beach and Carolina Beach dredge their respective inlets and help maintain them going forward. The amount pledged is $450,000 per inlet.
It's a "Matching Grant" only, so each community will have to match 50% of the cost of the dredging operation going forward.
The State Government has pledged $225,000, so we must come up with the balance. Also if we aren't able to find these funds, the matching grant will be lost. Keep an eye on an upcoming announcement concerning how we can all come together and help raise the necessary funds for this on-going situatrion. Together, we can make a difference and keep OUR Inlet open.
