NEW HANOVER COUNTY - May 9, 2007 - continuing increases in flow and questions that remain about the Effective immediately, Wednesday, May 9 2007 no new building permits will be issued by New Hanover County for the areas served by the North East Interceptor sewer line.  The decision to stop issuing new building permits comes following receipt of a letter to the City of Wilmington by the NC Division of Water Quality, commenting on the city’s ten point plan to rehabilitate the NEI.  The letter states “based on the reliability of the NEI the City of Wilmington, County of New Hanover and Town of Wrightsville Beach should…stop issuing building permits that would be tributary to the NEI…”

(Pictured Above:) According to Valita Quattlebaum - Public Information Officer for the Town of Carolina Beach - a Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle caught fire at around 8:30PM Saturday night. Someone called 911 to report a vehicle fire at Freeman Park. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when the Carolina Beach Fire Department arrived. The Federal Point Fire Department assisted in putting out the flames. The suspected cause of the fire was an overheated transmission. The fluid boiled over onto the engine manifold and caught fire.
