Green is where the Heart Is for March 27, 2013

“I’m so fortunate to be red! I’m fiery. I’m strong. I know men take notice of me and that I cannot be resisted.   I do not conceal myself: For me, delicacy manifests itself neither in weakness nor in subtlety, but through determination and will. So, I draw attention to myself.........Life begins with and returns to me. Have faith in what I tell you.”  ~Orhan Pamuk, My Name is Red

Contributing Writer

The space around you speaks a language.  That language is interpreted with all of your senses.  How does it look?  How does it smell?  How does it feel?  How does it sound?  Colors speak volumes and even it you have never been an artist or studied the psychological or physiological effect of color,  your body responds to the vibration deciphering this subtle language.  Your body reads the space and tells you if it is safe and comfortable by how it feels.
In my work with clients color is a main component of creating a healthy, happy space.
Current color tends are a consideration but more importantly, colors are chosen for clients according to their needs.  RED is a very active color.  It is the color of the full bloom of summer, the heat of fire and the emotion of passion.  In its balanced state it can be full of productivity and motivation to accomplish great tasks.
However, like anything else in life, the color RED must be balance and used wisely.
A shot of red can go a  long way.  Surrounding yourself with too much of a good thing may cause early burnout and sink you into exhaustion.
Close your eyes and imagine sitting in a room surrounded with RED walls and carpet.  How do you feel?
At first it may seem energizing and exciting but after a while you may feel the need to get up from that seat and move to another room of a
more neutral color palette to relax, renew and breathe.
RED increases blood pressure.  It may even put your immune system on hold while it prepares your body for fight or flight.
If you need a shot of adrenaline consider adding a shot of RED into your living space with accents and accessories like a picture on a wall, a ceramic vase, a pillow or two placed on the sofa or bed.  RED would not be a color to be used in abundance in the bedroom.
A color like this in your bedroom would not encourage shutting off the thoughts in the head and a quality sleep pattern, but if you are lucky enough to have a partner in that bed, you may want to add a splash of RED to the room to promote romance.
RED definitely heats up your space and entices lovemaking.  Have you seen ads for “Honeymoon Hotels” of the Pocono Mountains with the red velvet rooms that
spell out sexy salutations to the guests?  These rooms would never be decorated in blues or greens.
Plan on coming to Artful Living Group, 112 Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach for the monthly artist opening Thursday, February 7th 6:30-8:30 in the gallery space upstairs.
This month the gallery will be filled with pieces from a select group of artists centered around the color “RED.”
Beverages and light Hors d'Oeuvres will
be served.   Mais oui, the color RED is the color of love and cannot be resisted.  The show will continue through the month of February.  xo mo
