The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher celebrates the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday by waiving admission fees on Monday, January 21, 2013. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is one of two holidays each year the N.C. Aquariums offer visitors free admission. The other is Veterans Day in November. Don’t forget most schools are closed for the holiday, too. Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to spend a fun-filled day at AquaCamp. A few spaces are still available.
AquaCamp – Incredible Invertebrates - Date: Monday, January 21, 2013 from Time: 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. For Ages: 5-12 years old the Fee: $40 per participant. Campers discover unusual facts and meet interesting invertebrates including clams, snails, crabs, sea urchins, and sea stars. Live animal presentations, crafts and aquarium activities are all part of this exciting program. Snacks are provided. Campers need to bring a bag lunch. Preregistration is required. The Aquarium offers limited transportation from the Monkey Junction area to and from this camp. Limited space is available. An additional fee and preregistration is required.

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located 15 miles south of Wilmington in Kure Beach, on U.S. 421. The site is less than a mile from the Fort Fisher ferry terminal. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day). Admission: $8 ages 13-61; $7 ages 62 and older; $6 ages 3-12.
