Celebrate Whale of a Weekend at Aquarium

Celebrate a Whale of a Weekend at the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, 2013. The two-day event showcases Dolphin Discovery and Right Whale Quest, new exhibits inspired by real whales and a dolphin living in North Carolina coastal waters. Visitors match wits with Holly, a life-like bottlenose dolphin and take a 3-D virtual journey from North Carolina to the Bay of Fundy with North Atlantic right whales, Calvin and Delilah. “Dolphin Discovery and Right Whale Quest introduce new and innovative ways to tell the stories of really compelling animals,” said Aquarium Director Peggy Sloan. “They merge technology, game play and a vital conservation message into a truly engaging and fun experience for guests.”
Whale of a Weekend also features hands-on education stations to engage visitors of all ages to better understand marine mammals. Visitors can explore a humpback whale's family tree, try out a blubber glove, check out echolocation in action and much more.
In addition, marine mammal experts from around the state will share their knowledge and experience, including representatives from the N.C. Maritime Museum, N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, North Carolina State University's Center for Marine Science and Technology, Surfrider Foundation and University of North Carolina Wilmington Marine Mammal Stranding Program.
Whale of a Weekend is free with Aquarium admission.
