Joseph (JOE) Wallace Cameron Gray, Jr. of Lecanto, Florida, formerly of Carolina Beach, NC, passed away on September 16, 2012. He was born May 12, 1920 in Annapolis, Md., son of the late J. Wallace C. Gray, Sr. and Gladys Friml Gray. He was a member of the 1942 class of St. John's College in Annapolis and joined the US Army Air Corps after War was declared.
He graduated from OCS as a Navigator and was on a mission when the plane was forced down over Sweden. He was "interned" until exchanged. He married the late Mary E. Grenagle and had two children: Michael E. Gray (Constance) of Invernesss, Fla. and Gayle Gray Miller Lewis, deceased. Joe was President of their PTA, and the Lions Club. After retiring from The Telephone Company, he was a member of the Pioneers Club. He was a member of American Legion Post 129 of Carolina Beach and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He is also survived by grandsons: Michael E. Gray, Jr. (Brenda), Port Charlotte, Fla. Michael D. Miller and Mitchell Lewis of Baltimore, Md.; Erik Gray (Barbara) of Wilmington, NC and Mark E. Gray (Lauren) of Annapolis, Md.; two Great Grandchildren, Cameron Scott Gray of Wilmington, and Madison Bernadette Gray of Annapolis Md.; and two cousins, Mrs. Patricia Gray Warner Bolander of Kure Beach, NC and John Wilson Gray of Edwardsville, Ill. He was buried in the family plot in New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore, Md. October 1, 2012.
