Obituary: THEODOSIA MCINTIRE LEVINSON “Red”

Mrs. Levinson died peacefully at her home on Easter Sunday April 20th, 2014.  “Red” was born July 2, 1922 in Smithfield, W. Va., and was the daughter of Attorney Earl McIntire and Bertha McIntire.
Red’s sister and 4 brothers and loving husband, Joseph H. Levinson preceded her in death.  Red’s son Jim and grandson Lee carry on the law practice founded by father-in-law Louis L. Levinson and husband Joe Levinson, but Red was the one who laid down the law.  She was never idle and never gave up.   Red was a talented contractor and built many condos.  She was responsible for Benson’s first public swimming pool and was a real estate broker.  Mrs. Levinson was supportive of her husband’s efforts for 63 years.
They were a solid part of the Benson community and also instrumental to the development and community efforts of Carolina Beach where they spent many weekends with family and friends.   Red was the driving force that started the Carolina Beach Rescue Squad and was a lifetime member.
Both were members of Benson Baptist Church.  They also supported Duke University for over 60 years. Mrs. Levinson is survived by her son, Attorney James R. Levinson (Ginger) of Clayton; a daughter, Ann L. Munday (Brad) of Kiawah Island, SC and a daughter,  Nancy L. Eason (Frank) of Salisbury NC.   Also surviving are grandchildren, Attorney Joseph Lee Levinson, Jennifer Ann Munday,   Julie Eason Oates (Grant), and Lydia L. Handsfield  (Geoff).   Surviving are great-grandchildren Lila McIntire Oates and William Grant Oates, Jr.   Mrs. Levinson is also survived by brother-in-law, Charles Levinson and wife Louise of Raleigh and by many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all of the dedicated and compassionate doctors and nurses who have worked with our Mom these last few months.  Our special thanks to the neighbors and friends who were there for her when her enduring power rode out her 91 years on this good earth.  CELEBRATION : The immediate family will gather in the near future to remember and celebrate the life of this special person we have lost.  MEMORIALS:  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Benson Baptist Church at P.O. Box 321 Benson NC 27504 or to the Benson Rescue Squad at 300 N. Lee St. Benson, NC 27504.  Also, Carolina Beach Rescue Squad
