CAROLINA BEACH – Rose Rita Giguere, beloved by all, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, after a brief illness. Formerly of South Hadley, MA, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Giguere and granddaughter Jacky Marie Giguere. She is survived by her loving family, a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Kathy Giguere of Hemet, California; and grandson, Kevin Giguere. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, and best friend, Margie Morris, whom she touched with her caring, special ways.
Rita was born in Glover, VT, on December 2, 1919, one of seven children of Clara and Alpherie J. Girard. Most of her younger years were spent in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada. Beginning in 1942, she and her sisters, Jean and Lauretta, moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts to support the World War II effort as USO hostesses, which is where she met her husband. They were married in San Diego, California in April 1945.
She and her husband, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Harry and Lauretta Pfaff, retired to Carolina Beach, NC, in the early 1980's. They enjoyed bicycling around the island, walking around the lake, gardening, and visiting with their many friends, including Margie Morris of Carolina Beach. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She had a way of making everyone she met feel special in their own way.
Her legacy is her loving family and the knowledge of the good she gave to the world with her generous and kind spirit.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but will live in our memories a remarkable, much-loved person. A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, June 11 at 9am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.
