Hook, Line and Sinker: Local Fishing Report and Photos for October 23, 2013

10/20/13 - Hey Hey Hey, It’s a Beautiful Day!  We fished the river a couple of times this week, looking for those Fall Sea Mullet, but didn’t find them.  ‘Went to all the places they “should have been”, but only picked up two keepers.  They’re just not there!  Still, I’m calling the trips a success, since our purpose was to go out and see if the sea mullet were running.  We went, we saw, they weren’t! Oh well…  I’ll try again soon.
I want to thank Richard Horne, of Pleasure Island Insurance, for a super Gulf Stream charter on Friday. It was my first blue water trip, and everyone aboard had a great time!  While we didn’t pick up any Wahoo (Richard’s choice target) the stream did provide ample numbers of good sized Mahi Mahi. It’s quite exciting when you get five Dolphin on at once, and there are only four anglers on the boat!   We’ll be eatin’ good this week!   Otherwise, there are still lots of Red Drum in the area. They’re biting well on live mullet and cut mullet.  Flounder are liking live mullet and mud minnows. On the piers they’re picking up some small flounder, whiting, spadefish, a few spots, bluefish, croakers, a few black drum, sheepshead, stingrays, and sharks.. the “usual suspects”.  Oh, and King Mackerel are making regular appearance on the piers!  That’s nice!  In the surf catching red and black drum, flounder, bluefish, small pompano, stingrays, and sharks.  Anglers in the Bays and the Cape Fear are producing more and more good sized Speckled Trout. I think the weather will be noticeable cooler by the time you read this.  That won’t hurt the fishing!  Maybe some Spots will even show up!  And, I suppose I’ll have to make another Sea Mullet search. Today’s Fishing Fact:  You won’t catch much sittin’ home on the couch.  Get out there and wet a line!
Stay safe.  Be happy.

Mike Norris caught this whopper 9 pound Flounder fishing in a Got-em-on Live Bait Tournament.

Joe Pate caught this beautiful Mahi Mahi while fishing with Capt. Richard Horne.  What a great day!
