Girl’s will be home on Friday Night vs. New Bern
• 1/29 – Ashley 37 Laney 49 – The Eagles Varsity Basketball team got off to a good start on the road against Laney taking a 13-7 led thanks to a 7-0 by the Eagles in the quarter. However in the 2nd quarter Laney was able to come right back ending the quarter on a 7-2 run, putting them within a point of the Eagles, despite Breanna Edwards 11-points in the half. Eagles’ defense is helping make up for their trouble getting rebounds as they already have 6 in the half. Laney has a 18-8 advantage on the boards. Eagles picked up a big 3-pointer by Bre Edwards to start their scoring in the 2nd half. Following this play had to be stopped because of the fans.
After the fans were calmed down the Lady Eagles were able to get through Laney’s defense picking up 11-points in the quarter (6 from Felecity Havens). Meanwhile their defense held Laney to just 7-points giving the Eagles a 5-point lead going into the final quarter 31-26.
The Eagles held the lead until about 5:00 left in the game 32-30, and then Laney took over. Laney controlled the Boards and went on a 11-0 run to take a 7-point lead. In the final 5:00 of the game Laney went on a 19-5 run to take the win 49-37 a sole possession of 1st Place in the Mid-Eastern Conference. The Eagles fall to 4-1 in the MEC and 13-4 overall. HIGHLIGHTS: Felecity Havens 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists; Breanna Edwards had 17 points, 2 steals a assist and 4 rebounds; Kaili Rich had 2 points, a assist and 2 rebounds; Braelyn Little had 2 points; Ingrid Jackson had 1 point, a block 3 steals and a assist; Jada Bacchus had 3 rebounds and a steal; and Brittnay Butts had a assist.
• 2/1 – Ashley 53 Greenville Rose 45 – A win is a win and we will take one any way we can get it. The Eagles win on the road against J. H. Rose in what was a closer game than expected. After having beat Rose at home 59 to 25 the Eagles traveled to Greenville where they had to battle for every point. Fortunately at the buzzer, the Eagles were ahead. Felecity Havens led all scorers with 23 points, Jada Bacchus added 11, Breanna Edwards had 7, Chyna Cotton and Braelyn Little both had 5, and Ingrid Jackson had 2.
For the record: 5 -1 Conference (14-4 Overall).
