Ashley Varsity Girl’s Basketball Team will be Playing Laney for 1st Place Friday Night after wins over New Hanover and New Bern this Past Week

• 2/5 – Ashley 60 New Hanover 46 – After a rough 1st half the Lady Eagles Varsity Basketball team used tough defense and 17 steals to rout New Hanover in the 2nd half. It didn’t look good for the Eagles after a 18-12 1st quarter, but after that the Ladies buckled down on their defense and by halftime they were only down by 3-points 13-10. After the halftime break the Lady Eagles Coach Gale most of gave a good speech to her players. The Eagles looked like a different team in the 2nd half and quickly took control after outscoring New Hanover 18-8 in the 3rd quarter to take a 7-point lead 43-36. The Ladies were able to continue to pull away from the Wild Cats in the final quarter outscoring them 17-10 to take the win 60-46. HIGHLIGHTS: Breanna Edwards 20-points, a block, 7 steals, a assist, 4 rebounds, was 4 for 4 from the free throw line and 53.3% from the field; Jada Bacchus had a great game with 14-points, 4 steals, a assist, 9 rebounds, went 4 for 7 from the free throw line and shot a impressive 62.5% from the field; Felecity Havens had 17-points, a steal, 3 assists, 5 rebounds, was 5 for 7 from the free throw line, and shot 42.9& from the field; Kaili Rich had 8 points, 2 steals and a rebound; Brittany Butts had 2 points, and a assist; Chyna Cotton had 3 rebounds; Ingrid Jackson had 3 steals and 2 assists; and Braelyn Little had a rebound.
• 2/8 – Ashley 56 New Bern 39 – The Eagles Varsity Girls Basketball team were too much for the New Bern Bears this past Friday Night at Ashley. The Lady Eagles pulled away from the Bears 17-10 after the 1st quarter and were able to extend that lead to 11-points by halftime 30-19. After halftime the Eagles scoring slowed down. While the defense allowed the Bears to get to within 3-points before the quarter was over. The Ladies buckled down in the final quarter on both sides of the ball. Defensively they allowed just 5 points, meanwhile the offense picked up 19-points giving them the win by a final score of 56-39. The Girls have 2 games left in the Conference before they start the 1st Round of Tournament Play. They will have played Hoggard on Tuesday Night and will play their Final Home Game of the Season Friday night at Ashley against Laney for Senior Night.
