Eagles Varsity Baseball take down New Hanover 5-2 and New Bern 8-7 in the 8th Inning

• 4/9 – Ashley 5 New Hanover 2 - Ashley came back from a tough loss over the weekend to beat New Hanover on Tuesday night by a score of 5-2.  Matt Davis pitched out of a bases-loaded, 1-out jam in the 7th, benefitting from a nice back door pick by catcher Cully Crott at first base to end the game.  Pante Miliotis started on the mound for the Eagles, and was very effective, limiting the Wildcats to 1 run through 4 and 1/3 innings.  Davis then threw the rest of the game, allowing 1 hit along the way, earning a save.  Kam Johnson and Brody Curran each had 2 hits for the Eagles, and Dakota Perryman hit the first homerun of the season, a solo jack to left.  William Noxon also made some great defensive plays in the field, to secure a few outs.  With Hoggard's loss to New Bern, and Laney's loss to Rose, Ashley is now tied for first in the Mideastern standings, sporting a 2-1 record.  Hoggard and Rose are also 2-1, and Laney, New Hanover, and New Bern are all 1-2.  HIGHLIGHTS: Matt Davis was 1 for 1 with 4 strikeouts and got the win; Kameron Johnson went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and a RBI; Brody Curran 2 for 4; Eric Eason went 1 for 3 with a run and a RBI double; Sam Cavenaugh went 1 for 3 and had 12 strikeouts; Dakota Perryman went 1 for 3 with a Home Run; Shane Sheppard also went 1 for 3 with a double; and Trey Eller had a run; Pantelis Miliotis got the save and 2 strikeouts.
• 4/11 – Ashley 8 New Bern 7 – Eagles picked up a big home win over New Bern this past Thursday night. The Eagles got off to a bad start in this game falling behind 3-0 after the 1st inning and after allowing two more runs in the 2nd inning they were in a early 5-0 hole. The Eagles were able to start digging there way out after posting 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Eagles defense was able to keep shuting down New Bern’s offense. Meanwhile the Eagles offense posted another run in the bottom of the 5th inning and 2 more in the bottom of the 6th inning bringing the score to a 5-5 tie. In the 7th inning neither team was able to score sending this game into extra innings. Fast forward to extra innings, the top of the 8th, more specifically. After New Bern plated 2 runs to take a 7-5 lead, the Eagles could have easily rolled over in defeat.  But it would not be so, as Clayton McGee led off the bottom of the inning with a walk.  After Kam Johnson lined out to center for the first out, Eric Eason redeemed himself by hitting the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence to tie the game!!  Not to be outdone, Shane Shepard followed that with a 2-strike BLAST to right-center for the walk-off winning homerun!!  Final score-- Ashley 8, New Bern 7 in 8 innings!!  Eason was 4-5 with 4 RBI, Shepard was 2-3 with 3 RBIs, and Johnson was 2-5 with an RBI.  The Eagles are now 11-4 overall, 3-1 in the Mideastern.
