12th Annual Veterans Cup Wrestling Tournament at Ashley High School this Saturday

The 12th Annual Veterans Cup wrestling tournament will be held at Ashley High School, Saturday, January 19, 2013, beginning at 9:00 AM and continuing into the evening.  Sixteen teams are competing in the tournament this year including all four New Hanover County high schools and defending team champion South Brunswick High School.  The complete list of teams includes Ashley, Clinton, Hoggard, Jacksonville, Laney, New Hanover, North Brunswick, Northside, Pender, Richlands, South Brunswick, Swansboro, Trask, West Brunswick, West Craven and White Oak.
The Veterans Cup was so named to honor Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant First Class Eugene Ashley, Jr. for whom Ashley High School is named and for the men and women who have served our country to defend our freedom in times of peace and conflict.
Spectator admission to the tournament is $10 for adults and $5 for 1st through 12th graders.  Veterans, currently serving members of the armed services and pre-school age children will be admitted free of charge.
This year the Ashley High School wrestling team will donate $2 from each admission fee to Step Up for Soldiers, a local all-volunteer organization that provides renovations and recreational opportunities for recently disabled veterans.
