Members of the Carolina Beach Recreation Center are trying to put together Wednesday pick-up games for area seniors. If there is enough interest they are looking to hold the games between 10am and Noon. For more information contact Dwight Crainshaw at (910) 228-9540 or call the Recreation Center at (910) 458-2977. Crainshaw started the effort at the YMCA and they now have a thriving league of 6 competitive teams.
He and his fellow NC state senior softball champ, Ken Denne hope local seniors will respond and spend an afternoon of fitness and friendship at the Rec Center.
Ken Denne (SRU Class of 1959) was a member of The Rock basketball program for three seasons, including one season (1957-58) as the team's leading scorer and another (1958-59) as a team captain, and played one season of collegiate baseball. Shortly after receiving his undergraduate degree, Denne began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Duquesne High School.
He subsequently served as an assistant coach at Brentwood High School on Long Island before returning to western Pennsylvania to become head coach at Serra Catholic and South Allegheny high schools. Denne also worked 22 years as a PIAA basketball and softball official.
