Youth Basket Ball League: Championship Games held this Past Friday and Saturday

PIYL Week 10 - 3/12, 3/14
6-8 Age Division Semi-Finals
• 6:30PM 3/12 – #1 HP Homes vs. #4 Island Gazette – The Island Gazette was able to stay close with HP Homes in the 1st quarter of this game trailing by just 2-points after the 1st quarter 6-4. However in the 2nd quarter HP Homes used a 12-2 to take a 14-point halftime lead 18-6. After halftime HP Homes continued to pull away outscoreing the Island Gazette 6-4 in the 3rd quarter and 8-3 in the 4th quarter to take the win 32-13. HIGHLIGHTS: HP Homes: #12 Kenan Everhart 14, #11 Jared Becken and #10 Leo Baggie 6 each, #4 Christopher Schwenker 4, and #13 Kinsey Smith 2. Island Gazette: #11 TJ Parker 6, #14 Ashton Little 3, and #4 Matthew Silver and #10 Keaton Green each had 2.
• 6:30PM 3/14 – #2 Gulfstream vs. #6 Costco – Gulfstream’s defense helped them to open up the 4th quarter with a 4-0 run followed by a 9-2 run in the 2nd quarter giving them a comfortable 13-2 lead by halftime. After halftime the game stayed closer, but Costco couldn’t make up the deficit from the 1st half giving Gulfstream the win 25-13. HIGHLIGHTS: Gulfstream: #4 Neil Sims 15, #3 Nicholas Lamendola 6, and #12 Colin Neal and #11 Farrington Newton 2 each. Costco: #12 Jackson Kupec 9 and #3 Christian Merten and #5 Jack Haydu 2 each.
9-11 Age Division
Semi-Finals
• 7:30PM 3/12 – #1 Kure Beach Pier vs. #5 Sub Surface Support – The 1st half of this game was pretty close with Kure Beach Pier taking a 2-point lead after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd Quarter Sub surface Support was able to outscore Kure Beach Pier 13-7 to take a 2-point lead at halftime 17-15. After halftime Kure Beach Pier used a 9-2 run to regain the lead 24-19 going into the final quarter. In the 4th quarter Kure Beach Pier was able to continue to pull away winning by a final score of 37-27. HIGHLIGHTS: Kure Beach Pier: #5 Harry Smith Martin 15, #10 Ethan Graves 9, #3 Aidan Lafferty 6, #2 Robbie Helmus 5, and #12 Dimitnis Weakley 2. Sub Surface Support: #2 Kyler Schoonmaker 13, #14 Daniel Stokes 6, #5 Heath Higgins, and #4 Tristen Odham and #13 Brynn Little each had 2.
• 7:30PM 3/14 – #2 Michael’s Seafood vs. #3 Superior Medical – After a 2-2 1st quarter Superior outscored Michael’s 14-8 to take a 16-10 halftime lead. After halftime Michael’s was able to take a 1-point lead after going on a 8-1 run in the 3rd quarter. In the final quarter Michael’s was able to continue to pull away after connecting on their free throws giving them the win 31-25. HIGHLIGHTS: Michael’s Seafood: #12 Austin Johnson 16, #5 Joseph Barker and #1 Fisher Waggett 6 each, #2 Jas Herring 2, and #3 Trey Johnson 1. Superior Medical: #12 Jack Ettefagh 14, #2 Nathan HArdison 7, #1 Nicholas Ruscetti 2, and #13 William Locklear and #5 Jacob Baugher each had 1-point.
3/15 Championship Games
12-14 Age Division
• 6:30PM - #1 Hamm’s Hearing Aid vs. #2 Nikki’s Gourmet & Sushi Bar – Hamm’s offense was on fire in the 1st quarter of this game as they posted 16-points, while their defense held Nikki’s to 6-points. Hamm’s offense helped them to continue to pull away in the 2nd quarter after outscoring Nikki’s again 14-12 giving them a 12-point lead 30-18. After halftime Nikki’s stepped up their defense holding Hamm to just 4-points, while their offense got them to within 8-points 34-26. In the final quarter Hamm was able to get the lead back to double digit’s completing their perfect season with the 43-33 win. HIGHLIGHITS: Hamm Hearing Aid: #5 Joshua Smiley 20, #3 Nash Best 8, #14 Hawthorne Hamm 7, #12 Larry Davis 4, and #1 Elijah Akins and #11 Kyle Carpenter 2 each. Nikki’s Gourmet & Sushi Bar: #13 Nick Winslow 11, #5 Luke Winslow 7, #14 Eason Saffo 6, #2 Caitlyn Barker 4, #3 Kevin Mintz, Jr. 3, and #1 Aiden Smith Martin 2.
15-17 Age Division
• 7:30PM – #1 Atlantic Coast Carpet vs. #2 Allied Pest Control - Both teams got off to a slow start in the 1st quarter of this game with Allied taking a 1-point lead 4-3. The offense picked up in the 2nd quarter with Atlantic Coast outscoring Allied 17-10 to take a 6-point lead at halftime. After the break the offense slowed down again with Allied cutting the lead to 1-point 24-23. In the final quarter the game remain close, but down the stretch Atlantic Coast hit some important free throws to take the win and the Championship Game 33-31. HIGHLIGHTS: Atlantic Coast Carpet: #2 David Hicks 12, #5 Drew Brinson 6, #10 Jeremy Brekke 5, #13 Josh Ywaskevic 4, #12 Ryan Brinson, #11 Quinton Deatrick and #14 Randy Richards 2 each. Allied Pest Control: #2 Erik Jedrey 12, #3 Dylan Owen 6, #4 Daniel Farriss 4, #12 Bronson Hope 3, and #11 Michael Hayes, #5 Jordan Powell, and #14 Joshua Jackson 2 each.
3/16 Championship Games
6-8 Age Division
• 10:00AM - #1 HP Homes vs. #2 Gulfstream – Both offenses were on fire in the 1st quarter of this game, but it was HP Homes that took the early 2-point lead 9-7. However in the 2nd quarter HP Homes’ defense held Gulfstream scoreless while their offense picked up 9-points giving them a 13-point halftime lead 20-7. After halftime Gulfstream was able to chip into HP Homes lead by 6-points bringing the score to 22-15. In the final quarter HP Homes was able to hold off Gulfstream’s late surge to take the win 27-20. HIGHLIGHTS: Gulfstream: #4 Neil Sims 15 and #3 Nicholas Lamendola 5. HP Homes: #12 Kenan Everhart 12, #11 Jared Becken 7, #10 Leo Baggie 6, and #13 Kinsey Smith 2.
9-11 Age Division
• 11:00AM - #1 Kure Beach Pier vs. #2 Michael’s Seafood – Michael’s Seafood used a 12-2 run in the 1st quarter of this game to get some separation from Kure Beach Pier. However in the 2nd quarter Kure Beach Pier’s offense exploded picking up 15-points, while their defense held Michael’s to 4-points giving them a 1-point lead at halftime 17-16. After halftime the scoring again slowed down with Kure Beach Pier adding 2 more points to their lead now at 3-points 25-22. In the final quarter Kure Beach Pier wasn’t able to pull away, instead Michael’s hung around getting a chance at sending the game into overtime, but coming up short giving Kure Beach Pier the win. HIGHLIGHTS: Kure Beach Pier: #10 Ethan Graves 21, #3 Aidan Lafferty 8, and #5 Harry Smith Martin 7. Michael’s Seafood: #12 Austin Johnson 10, #5 Joseph Barker 8, #3 Trey Johnson 6, #13 Dylan McGowan and #2 Jas Herring 4 each and #15 Alysaa Fizer 2.

The 6-8 Age Division HP Homes finished their season undefeated with 11 wins. Taking 1st Place in the Regular Season and 1st Place in the Tournament.

The 6-8 Age Division Gulfstream finished their season with 8-3 record
overall. Taking 2nd Place in the Regular Season and 2nd Place in the Tournament.

The 9-11 Age Division Kure Beach Pier finished their season with a 10-1 record. Taking 1st Place in the Regular Season and 1st Place in the Tournament.

The 9-11 Age Division Michael’s Seafood finished their season with 9-2 record overall. Taking 2nd Place in the Regular Season and 2nd Place in the Tournament.

The 12-14 Age Division Hamm Hearing Aid finished their season with 11 wins. Taking 1st Place in the Regular Season and 1st Place in the Tournament.

The 12-14 Age Division Nikki’sGourmet & Sushi Bar finished their season with 6-5 record overall. Taking 2nd Place in the Regular Season and 2nd Place in the Tournament.

The 15-17 Age Division Atlantic Coast Carpet finished their season with a 10-1 record. Taking 1st Place in the Regular Season and 1st Place in the Tournament.

The 15-17 Age Division Allied Pest Control finished their season with 5-6 record overall. Taking 2nd Place in the Regular Season and 2nd Place in the Tournament.
