Festival de Dia De Los Muertos New Hanover County Girls Scouts – Open to All Children

Friday October 31, from 3pm-5pm, the New Hanover County Girls Scouts will celebrate their founder’s birth with a Halloween “Trunk or Treat” event. The event will take place at the new Wilmington Service Center, 2250 Shipyard Blvd. Suite 3. (SW corner of the building). All children in the community are invited join in and are encouraged to come in costume (no masks, no gore.) Activities will include Trick-or-Treat at a variety of stations as well as a costume contest which will take place at 4:30. Recognition of the Mexican holiday “the day of the dead” premiers this year, as well as the movie Hocus Pocus which will be shown beginning at 3:30. Juliette Gordon Low was born on October 31 in 1860 in Savannah Georgia.  She always considered Halloween her “personal” holiday and the Girl Scouts honor her with some version of a Birthday /Halloween party. In New Hanover County there are 90 troops with over 960 girl members, ages 5-18.  Currently there are 450 adult volunteers helping these girls learn that “there is greatness in every girl.”  For more information and to donate your time or other resources or to find a troop for your daughter e-mail or call Debbie Todd at dtodd@nc or 910-231-0750.
