Golf Cart Editorial

Dear Editor,

This is in regard to your editorial on Golf Carts:  As you know, Golf carts are required to be registered with the Town of Carolina Beach and then Display a registration decal.  The Liability insurance carrier and policy number must be stated on the application or the registration  is not granted.  Therefore, if a cart has a valid current decal, it should also have current liability insurance.

The issue of driver frustration due to slower speed of golf carts has little to do with their safety.  Most non street legal carts have a top speed of 19-20 mph. Most cart drivers like myself will stay in the right lane on Lake Park Blvd and will be in the left lane only to make a left turn.  I have seen occasional frustration, but the driver usually just moves to the left and passes me.  Actually, I prefer to use side streets whenever possible.  To promote safety, the addition of seat belts, especially for children could be considered by Council.
