Enough already with the parking rate hikes...

Enough already with the parking rate hikes. Just two years ago you tripled the Non-resident yearly parking rate from $25 to $75. Now you are doubling that to $150.
My wife and I were "Chamber Volunteers of the Year in 2015" as we have been volunteering on the island for more than 20 years at all the major events; Beach, Bacon and Brew (formerly Chowder Cook-Off), Beach Music Festival and Seafood, Blues & Jazz Festival. As well as attending and supporting a multitude of other fund raisers on the island. As a member and past president of the Pleasure Island Parrot Heads we organized the annual Beach Sweep for 20 years. I don't think it is fair to ask those volunteering to pay to do so. I didn't mind paying $25 and have reluctantly paid the $75 now, but no more. We don't come down to lounge on the beach, we come down to volunteer, eat at the restaurants, and support the local businesses.
I sure hope the town and chamber can find enough Carolina Beach residents to volunteer for all the events that they put on. I feel like Chamber members especially ones that do the volunteering should be allowed a discount. About half or more of the Chamber members and volunteers live in Kure Beach or OTB (over the bridge). As well as over half of our Pleasure Island Parrot Head Club members. Good luck running successful events if you lose the majority of those folks.
This is not even taking into account the service industry people. The house keepers, maintenance folks, bellmen, desk clerks, dishwashers, hostesses, wait staff, cooks and even the sales folks that it takes to run all the businesses in Carolina Beach. Most of which can't afford to live on the island, they have to park also.
You want to keep this a family beach with things to do other than the sand beach and ocean but if businesses and other activities like the Tuesday Family Night, Wednesday Bingo, Thursday Music & Fireworks (which the Chamber is struggling to get volunteers for already) lose their help because they can't afford to come into town and park what are you left with? Not much.
So in closing there are plenty of other businesses that would love our support in Kure Beach, Wilmington and Monkey Junction. As well as many more organizations that would be glad to have our time and talents to volunteer for them.
