Dear Editor
One year ago on July 13, 2017, while me and my 15 year old grandson, were traveling down HWY 74/76, a woman T-Boned my 4-door soft top Jeep Wrangler and it flipped 6 times landing on the roof in the middle of the highway.
When the ambulance took me from the scene, they were not sure if I was going to make it. It was only by the Grace of God that I am here and well today.  I believe an Angel actually came down and put their wings around me and my grandson, Donavan.  A true miracle happened that day.
Thankfully Donavon was not hurt.  I was not so lucky, I was in ICU for 5 days with;  13 broken ribs; 5 of them had to be plated, cut spleen, 13 stitches in my head, lungs collapsed, and some damage to my back.  Doctors were amazed at how quickly I was healing; was slated to be in hospital rehab for at least 17 days; my total hospital stay was 14 days.  I thank GOD every day for my life.
I am so thankful for all the wonderful people that prayed for me, worried about me, unquestionably showed their concern for me and helped me this past year, I am very thankful for each and every person. Today I am doing fantastic, I’m very grateful for my “new normal”.
To my amazing, loving family, I’m so very Blessed to have each of you; Grandson Donavan Wells who probably saved my life that day, even though he was dazed and confused he took care of me until the ambulance came….Daughter Tiffany Hertz and her husband Jordan took care of all the necessary details after the accident and turned their lives upside down to take care of me for the last year….Son Sam Wells who gave up his Leave time to take care of me…. Sandi Stewart my dearest friend of 45 years traveled from St. Louis, MO and Patsy Armstrong my loving sister-in-law traveled from Houston Texas to take their turns caring for me… the love of my life “W” for validating why he is the love of my life….
My truly wonderful friends who gave so much of themselves; Sheila Nicholson who came to my rescue at a “drop of a hat” to comfort me when I was crying hysterically or needed help of any kind when my daughter couldn’t get to me fast enough….Angie Wiggins made sure that everyone was kept up to date on my status, sent me wonderful funny e-mails daily and made a beautiful wall card and had everyone sign it and most importantly made sure I was fed by creating a Meal Train..… Last but surely not least, the Planning Department; Gigi and Abby made sure my birthday was not forgotten and braved my daughter’s rules to come see me, all of the individuals I work with at CB Town Hall and the people and businesses of Carolina Beach.  I THANK all of you for all of the prayers, cards, e-mails and best wishes; it truly warms my heart whenever I think of the love this community has showed me this past year.
