Baseball Game Report 3/17 Ashley falls to New Hanover 3-1

The Screaming Eagles baseball team rolled in to Buck Hardee Field at Legion Stadium with a perfect conference record at 2-0.  After a low scoring affair, the Eagles fell to cross-town rival New Hanover by a score of 3-1.  Freshman Price King started on the mound for Ashley, and allowed 3 runs in 2.1 innings of work against a senior-oriented Wildcat squad.  Trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning, Ashley scratched across a run on an Alex Highsmith infield single, followed by a wild pitch, and then a Lee Fentress RBI single to left.  That would be the only scoring, as the Eagles fell to 2-1 in the Mideastern conference.  Drake Overton did a stellar job in relief on the mound tonight, tossing 3.2 innings and allowing only 1 hit while striking out 4.  Ashley will be back in action on Friday, as we host the Hoggard Vikings in a 6 PM conference game.  Then, on Saturday, we host Dixon in a non-conference game, as well as put on our BBQ fundraiser to raise some more money for a hitting facility!!  We'd love for everyone to come to both games and come eat!!

Ladies win by a final score of 3-1 over East Duplic

The Lady Eagles traveled to East Duplin Tuesday night for a non-conference game. The Lady Eagles were first on the board with a goal from sophomore, striker Carly Higgins. East Duplin responded with a break-away goal. Eagle junior, Lindsey Williams, put the Eagles ahead with a great run and finish, bringing the score to 2-1 at half. Sophomore, Tess Cairney, tacked on another goal with a finish off of a penalty kick. The Eagles will host Topsail on Thursday in their second conference game. This brings the overall record to 3-1-1 and 1-0-0 in conference play.
