Ashley Sports NEWS: Boys & Girls Cross Country Boys take 3rd and Girls finish in 4th in 8 School Meet

The Screaming Eagles Cross Country Teams competed in a large meet this past Thursday that included 8 teams. The Meet was held at Hugh McRae Park and hosted by Laney. The Teams competing were: Whiteville, New Hanover, Laney, Hoggard, Coastal Christian, Cape Fear Academy, Topsail and Ashley.
The Boys race was up 1st and included a large field of 151 kids Ashley’s Dakota Spurley was able to take 4th Place with a personal best time of 17:56. The rest of the Eagles top 7 Places and Times were Nash Best 18:56 11th, Thomas Avery 18:56 12th, James Avery 21st 19:14, Adam Ortega 19:26 27th, Chris Gomes 19:33 30th, and Keagan Butler 19:48 41st. The rest of the Eagles times were: George Malahias 20:53, Hunter Graham 20:57, Sam Hagestram 21:29, RJ Hunt 21:34, Nathan Ovall 21:46, Robert Gritzer 22:24, Daniel Wike 22:46, Nick Young 22:52, CJ Tyson 22:55, Marley VonCannon 22:57, Harris Hord 23:04, Nicholas Martin 24:46, Robbie Schaline 25:20, Alex Signorello 26:35, Jacob Sawyer 26:43, Matt Wojtylak 27:49, Cameron Harris 29:31, and Jair Redmond 36:59. The Eagles finished in a tie for 2nd Place with Hoggard.
However in Cross Country Races a tie is decided by the 6th runner and in this case Hoggard edged out the Eagles by 5 Places.
In the Girls Race there was a total of 119 Girls and the Lady Eagles were lead by Julia Boudreau who finished in 8th Place with a time of 21:42. Julia was followed by teammates: Maddison Marriccini 22:34 16th, Mack Morgan 22nd 23:04, Kendall Hunt 25th 23:11, Zara Bryant 35th 23:48, Mary Andrews 36th 23:50, and Abigail Efting 47th 24:57. The other Lady Eagles times were: Maggie Skelton 25:27, Madison Smith 25:57, Kaela 26:19, Catie Condon 26:39, Ashley Merritt 26:41, Keelia Breese 26:51, Jayden Kopka 26:53, Loring Penna-Welch 27:24, Katrina Britingham 28:16, Amanda McIntyre 29:33, Madeline 33:06, Trevor Wynn 33:09, and Caitlyn Leigh 33:21. The Team finished in 4th out of 8 teams.
The Eagles Season is almost over with just 2 meets left in Wilmington. Next Thursday is the County Championships and the following Thursday the teams will be competing in the Conference Championships. Both Meets begin at 4:00pm and are held at Hugh McRae Park.
